Water Sports

With “one of the world’s outstanding coastlines” (National Geographic) as well as a beach in the heart of the city, it’s no surprise that water sports are a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike.

Watch the surfers, divers and sailors take on the brisk waves of the North Sea at the city centre beach or sandy beaches along the Aberdeenshire Coast. You can also see the local rowers glide up the central river and on occasion take on competitors from across Scotland in well celebrated races.

Of course there is the option to try some of these sports for yourself with the Granite Reef Surf School or Core94 Watersports… but if that all seems a bit too much you couldn’t go home without having said you at least dipped your toes in the chilly North Sea!

For something a bit warmer, the 1930’s heated Stonehaven Open Air Pool brings in visitors from across the world hoping to have enjoy a swim in the great outdoors!

The area is blessed with two rivers. The River Dee is renowned throughout the world for its wild Atlantic salmon and the River Don is one of Europe best wild brown trout fisheries. Anglers come from all over the globe to fish these wonderful rivers!
