Admire Scotland’s breath-taking scenery with a twist: meandering alongside Candysclan’s loveable pack ponies. All packages include an opportunity to groom, plait and tack the ponies up in preparation for your stroll and a chance to introduce yourself as you do. You will also get the option to lead the ponies on your walks.

These walks are the perfect way for lone travellers and groups to experience the idyllic scenery and history behind Strathdon with these elegant animals. You’ll leave with happy memories, lots of photos and a deeper love of ponies.

There are four packages available:

Historical walk (2 hours)

Strathdon is full of interesting history from the ancient Poldullie Bridge (where the recent Mary Queen of Scots film was filmed during the ambush sequence) to striking castles and the tradition of the Lonach Highland Games. Candysclan’s historical walk will allow you to travel back in time as you take this historical journey before stopping at the local viewpoint, The Bellabeg View, for a picnic or refreshments. On your walk you will see many points of interest including The Doune, the village school and church, The Lonach and Lost (a tiny hamlet with sign that provides a great photo opportunity).

Romantic walk (2 hours)

The romantic walk follows a similar route to historical walk or there is the option of going on a forest walk for a chance to spot the local wildlife including red squirrels, stoats, deer, buzzards, owls and more. When you reach The Bellabeg View you will be treated to a romantic picnic of homemade food and some fizz.

Family walk (2 hours)

A great day out for the whole family, Candysclan offers a fun and educational adventure for young ones with the pack ponies. During your picnic stop your children will be given pony pictures to colour in as they enjoy their food and upon return they will each be given a rosette to remember their fun day out.

Taster session (30 minutes)

For those on a tighter schedule Candysclan also offer a 30 minute walk and photo opportunity that is a great for those who prefer a gentle stroll.
