The history and heritage of this part of Scotland has been captured in our museums and is just waiting to be discovered.
The city centre itself is home to some key museums including the Tolbooth Museum, Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Zoology Museum and the 5* Gordon Highlanders Museum. Scotland’s first centre of science and discovery is home to 50 exhibits and live-shows making it a family favourite.
There’s also the chance to visit a former Victorian HM Convict Prison in Peterhead. Once Scotland’s most notorious prison the site has been transformed into a museum highlighting the work of the brave personnel who served in the prison until 2013.
Venture further along the coast to discover more about the history and heritage of Aberdeenshire at museums including Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, Stonehaven’s Tolbooth Museum and Maggie Law Maritime Museum.
Step back in time at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford as you check out legendary supercars and stagecoaches. And further up in Royal Deeside, in Braemar you can get to grips with local traditions at Braemar Highland Games Centre. The new heritage centre gives you the chance to experience our world-famous highland games all year-round!
