Hiking

Get your hiking boots on - there are over 30 Munros and Corbetts here in Aberdeenshire alone.

Whether you’re taking on the challenge of your first Munro or you’re touring the 282 Munros found in Scotland, expect breath-taking views as you look out over some of Scotland’s most striking landscapes.

Walkers from far and wide travel to Aberdeenshire eager to tick off four of highest mountains in the UK including Ben Macdui, Braeriach, Cairn Toul and Sgor an Lochain Uaine. And we can't forget one of our most popular munros in Aberdeenshire - the mighty Lochnagar.

The Lairig Ghru is Scotland’s most famous mountain pass covering 19 miles of outstanding natural beauty from Braemar to Aviemore. Hiking the Lairig Ghru is no easy feat, taking roughly 8 – 10 hours to complete the trail through wild terrain. Experienced mountain leaders, Hillgoers, offer guided walks through the pass, but these sell out fast so make sure to book in advance.

Driving from Aberdeen to Inverurie you’ll see the peaks of Bennachie towering high in the Aberdeenshire skyline. Bennachie offers a contrasting route, taking you from ancient forest, through heathery inclines and exposed rock before you reach Oxen Craig (its highest point).

Please always follow the Scottish Outdoor Access code.
