The Lodge on the Loch Spa Retreat

Part of our appeal is undoubtedly, as the popular property programme says, ‘location, location, location!’ Nestling on the banks of an idyllic Scottish loch, our guests enjoy both splendid tranquillity and the most stunning scenery. We are close enough to Aberdeen to afford guests a convenient weekend break, and yet far enough into the heart of Royal Deeside to provide the ideal base for a tour of many of Scotland’s most famous sites and landmarks - Balmoral Castle being high on the list. On our doorstep is the delightful historic town of Aboyne, a popular destination for all visitors to Royal Deeside, and just down the road finds the Cairngorms National Park: the largest area of protected wilderness in the UK.

It’s not all about location though; ‘The Lodge’ also pampers its guests with excellent facilities. Our bedrooms are on a par with some of the finest metropolitan hotels, with our larger rooms and suites offering such hedonistic pleasures as under-floor heating, saunas, steam spas and Jacuzzi baths. Our ‘Retreat Spa’ features a Hammam Room equipped with a Japanese deep soak tub, steam bath and monsoon shower: the perfect place to indulge in a wide-variety of holistic treatments and therapies including Shiatsu, Reflexology, Quantum Touch, Reiki and ‘La Stone’. Our Osprey and Formaston function suites allow our guests to enjoy the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands and keep toasty and warm: making ‘The Lodge’ the ideal venue for weddings and special events. Whilst for the more energetically minded, our nine hole golf course and driving range presents the novice and scratch player alike with an enjoyable challenge.

Osprey Restaurant

Enjoying fine dining on the banks of a tranquil Scottish loch, especially al fresco in the warmer months, should be on the ‘to do’ list of every visitor to the Scottish Highlands. When we designed the Osprey Restaurant we wanted to create an atmospheric space that would allow diners to really savour this unique experience. All-around picture windows, with French doors opening onto the Osprey Deck and loch-side terrace, ensure that wherever our diners are seated, they are sure to enjoy uninterrupted views of the Loch of Aboyne and the Cairngorms National Park beyond.

Beautiful by day, when the sun sets behind the mountains, the Osprey Restaurant takes on a whole new atmosphere, creating one of the most exceptional natural light shows to be found anywhere in Scotland. If you are fortunate, you may just see an osprey power-diving into the loch to catch their dinner – a little bonus with our compliments.

Menus

Our high culinary standards and use of only the finest ingredients, sourced locally from ‘Scotland’s Natural Larder’, have earned us accreditation with the Visit Scotland ‘Taste our Best’ scheme and the AA Good Dinner Awards. We pride ourselves on offering our diners a satisfying choice of classic Scottish Highland cuisine, popular dishes from the Mediterranean, and a few surprises too. Our breakfast, lunch and dinner menus vary as the seasons progress and are complimented by a daily specials board, allowing our chef to prepare dishes made from produce fresh from local markets. Every dish that leaves our kitchens is unique, prepared to your wishes, and cooked as you like it.

We cater for special diets, including vegetarian, gluten free and vegan, and we are always happy to advice guests with food allergies.

The Single Malt Whisky Bar

Fully complementing the fine dining experience of our Osprey Restaurant, our Single Malt Whisky Bar provides guests with a cordial setting in which to enjoy an aperitif or relaxing after dinner drink. No visit to ‘The Lodge’ would be complete without sampling a wee dram of uisge beatha (the water of life) and we have a choice of over sixty malts and blends for you to choose from.

We boast an extensive wine list, carefully selected from some of the best vineyards in the world, with our private collection of Bordeaux Cru Classe wines taking pride of place. Cocktails are a speciality and we can mix timeless classics like a Harvey Wallbanger or a trendy tipple like SOB. Or if you prefer a non-alcoholic drink, we have a large selection of juices and carbonated drinks, not to mention our freshly ground Italian Lavazza coffee. Slainte Mhath!
