Aboyne
Within Royal Deeside, this charming village is set in beautiful Scottish landscape.
On travelling from Aberdeen to Balmoral Castle, or on your way to bag a Munro, you will pass through this idyllic village. It's a must stop to see this picturesque setting and a great location to stay for a few days. It has lovely boutique shops, cafe's and delicious local produce.
Annually in August, the Aboyne Highland Games returns to celebrate ancient traditions including highland dancing, pipe bands playing, the caber toss and tug-o-war.
For the walking and cycling enthusiasts there is the The Deeside Way - a 41-mile walk from Aberdeen to Ballater via Banchory and Aboyne following the path of the Old Royal Deeside Way.
Aboyne has its own Mountain Bike Park in the Bellwood, which consists of two short downhill tracks, a jump park and pump track suitable for all ages and abilities.
Panoramas of the majestic Royal Deeside can be seen from the Aboyne Golf Course, which is the oldest 18 hole golf course on Royal Deeside.
Here you can be active all year-long. No matter the season, try quad biking, go karting, archery and clay pigeon shooting at Deeside Activity Park. Close by, the Glen Tanar Estate is popular for outdoor adventurers with horse riding, cycling, walking and fishing.
Kayaking, canoeing and gliding are some of the activities you can also try out close to the village.
Getting There
Head west from Aberdeen by car to join the A93. There is an available bus route operated by Stagecoach.
