Ethical Gift Shop
Established in 2007, the Ethical Gift Shop is a small gift shop which sells all manner of things which have been hand crafted, mostly from eco-friendly, recycled or ethically sourced materials. The items which aren't "ethical" are genuinely hand crafted by people that the owners have come to know and respect, so the items history can be traced.
About 70% of stock is "Fair Trade" or "Ethical" and has been purchased through reputable ethical wholesalers most of whom are registered with the World Fair Trade Organisation, ensuring these items have been produced according to the principles and ethics of Fair Trade. Also for sale is the work of almost 40 local crafters and artists, some of whom regularly hold workshops within the shop. Within the store is "The Front Room", which is set aside for customers to sit and relax with a cup of fair trade tea, coffee or hot chocolate and maybe a biscuit or a slice of cake. These drinks and bites are also available to take away. The furniture in this area is up-cycled and available for sale and the crockery used has been made in Thailand by an ethical producer. The take away cups are 100% biodegradable.
There is a small tourist information leaflet stand where you can find details of local visitor attractions, events and tourism businesses.
The owners work hard to ensure the shop is as ethical and as friendly as can be and you are invited to visit sometime!
