Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges

Our head chef and talented team put as much love, care and attention into a pan of soup or a quiche as they do into cooking the perfect steak.

Saplinbrae is a place for guests and locals alike to enjoy beautiful, honest food, unhushed and unhurried, in the eye of the Buchan countryside. We believe in all day dining, and welcome guests for morning coffee and scones, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner (we highly recommend getting booked in to enjoy our multi-award-winning afternoon tea). You can pop in past at any time - treats like a millionaire’s shortbread or a warming bowl of soup which are available all day, every day too.

We have sought quality wines, spirits, beers and of course whisky from several independent distilleries, vineyards and Scottish brewers, which complement many old favourites. We are proud to offer a selective cocktail list, which has been matched to our style of food - we recommend the espresso martini as a great alternative to an after dinner coffee! Our Snug is as close to a traditional local pub as can be - the beer flows and the rugby can always be caught on the telly.

Being farmers and having a strong agricultural connection, we deem provenance to be of the highest importance. We are committed to sourcing locally, and always source from Buchan, Aberdeenshire and Scotland as far as possible - our fish comes from suppliers in Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Sandend, our beef from Foveran, much of our pork and lamb from our own family farms in Kininmonth and the Black Isle and our vegetables from Morag in Crimond

Originally built in 1756, Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges showcases the best in relaxed country living, where quality of service and commitment to consistency is excellent, but still personal, fun and inspired.

All of the nine bedrooms have historic charm —original cornices and their own wee quirks— which have been complemented with local art, antique prints and small touches of tweed from the local mill. They are a fitting counterpart to the spectacular views from your window of acres of uninterrupted rolling farmland.

The self-catering lodges can be found in the hotel grounds—firstly, the stone Shooting Lodge which features four double en-suite bedrooms, a large sitting room with wood burning stove and spacious kitchen and dining area. The two cosy chalets each sleep 6 and also feature a stove and well equipped kitchen.

The hotel is located in North Aberdeenshire, and Saplinbrae is the perfect seat from which to enjoy time away: great walks, around the Pitfour Estate and the Buchan and Formartine Line, can be found on the doorstep, as well as Aden Country Park and several local golf clubs including Cruden Bay only a few miles away. The remains of Deer Abbey are just across the road and Saplinbrae's favourite distillery – Glendronach – a 30 minute drive.
