World Record Attempt is a Cracker
19 December 2014
Spurred on by the enthusiastic record attempts of 2013 and 2014 to achieve a world record for the largest choir of people bearing the same name, the people of Aberdeen were called together to attempt to break another Christmas world record on Saturday 6 December in Aberdeen City Centre. Revellers gathered to create the longest Christmas cracker pulling chain!
355 pullers gathered in the Bon Accord centres at 1pm for the attempt. Many families took part and the children, bubbling with enthusiasm, even set about recruiting more cracker pullers to take part.
It was a cold but bright day and the shopping areas were busy with Christmas shoppers. In the Bon Accord Centre, the chain started at Millie’s Cookies and wound its way round past Costa then up past the escalators. A quirky, fun idea, it proved to be very popular and spirits were high with nearby businesses handing out food and drink. Thanks must go to the Good Food Shop and to Fuel for their help with this.
Support for the attempt wasn’t just local and included a mention on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Steve Wright in the Afternoon’ show. There were many local messages of support on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Sadly we didn’t manage to break the previous record of 749 participants but the Aberdeen people rallied and a fantastic time was had by all.
On our Facebook page, you can see the wonderful Mexican wave which took place and there are some really great pictures capturing the high spirits that characterised the event.
See the video of the Mexican wave on our dedicated Facebook page and then view the photos of the Cracker record attempt.
