I never quite seem to have a dull moment as there is always something going on in the fabulous Granite City. As one of my favourite past times is to attend some of the exclusive and exciting festivals Aberdeen has to offer I thought I would share with you just why they shouldn’t be missed this year!
Kicking off with the educational and illuminating Arts Across Learning in February, the festival season is nearly upon us. It is followed closely by one of the most outstanding Jazz festivals I have ever seen, when world acclaimed jazz artists bring their music to the city every year at Aberdeen Jazz Festival.
There are some festivals in Aberdeen that I feel have almost become imbedded in local culture. For me, those are TechFest and Aberdeen International Youth Festival. From being a little girl, I have always attended and loved their individual offerings.
One festival that is contributing to cementing Aberdeen’s festival offering on an international scale is the innovative, DanceLive. Now in its 10th year it really is extraordinary in showcasing different styles of dance and inspiring people all over the North-east to discover potentially a new talent.
If you are really looking to be inspired, then take my advice and look no further… the artist’s, designer’s and marker’s creations you will see at North East Open Studios will motivate you to take up a new hobby this year.
However, if you are too busy to add another hobby to that ever growing list of ‘things to do and things to learn’ then don’t miss fun for all the family at this year’s Fifty Plus Family Festival. With two low cost (or some free!) weeks of programmed activity and events, this will be sure to keep you busy, healthy active and social!
May Festival, similarly presents a mix of events which can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Packing in an amazing 100 events over three days, I don’t think you will have time for a quiet moment in May!
This year, the programme of festivals is set to draw to an incredible ending with sound – where you for sure should expect the unexpected!
