“Candles burning low, lots of mistletoe, lots of snow and ice everywhere we go.” "It’s the most wonderful time of the ye---" Okay, I’ll stop with the Christmas medley before it turns into a written carol concert. In a week today, December begins and as you can probably guess I am very excited for Christmas. We have such a terrific selection of winter events happening in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire this Christmas that I am experiencing Christmas much like my childhood self and I am more excited than my adult self has ever felt before.

Here is my picks of the activities this winter:

Aberdeen Christmas Village
This year the Aberdeen Christmas Village is bringing the Christmas spirit to a new location. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Marischal College - the second largest granite building in the world – Aberdeen Christmas Village features an ice skating rink, fairground attractions, food and drink stalls and Christmas markets. On selected weekends the village will host the FINE Christmas Food and Drink Market and HAAN Christmas Design Markets – which are sure to get you in the festive spirit this Christmas. This event is a must see on the #winterABDN agenda.
Date:  OPEN NOW – 31 December.   Location: Broad Street.

Christmas Lights Switch On Parade
It never feels like Christmas until the Union Street Christmas lights are switched on, or is that just me?  Prior to the lights being switched on Santa and his Reindeer Parade will arrive in town to spread the festive cheer. You can also see the magnificent Christmas tree lighting up the Castlegate which was turned on last night.
Date: 26 November.   Location: Union Street.

Cullen Christmas Lights Switch On and Fireworks
The beautiful town of Cullen is ready for Christmas. Their brightly coloured homes already light up the day time, now they are lighting up the night. The event will be kicked off with a Christmas fayre in the Town Hall, followed by the Christmas lights being turned on. The evening will conclude with fireworks and festive entertainment from Cullen Rainbows and Brownies.
Date: 30 November.   Location: Cullen Square, Cullen.

Turriff Winter Wonderland
Turriff will be celebrating the festive season with its first winter wonderland this year. Get ready for trees lit up with Christmas lights, snow machines, music from Turriff Silver Band and magicians. Santa’s grotto and an elf’s workshop are sure to bring the Christmas magic to children and adults alike. Whilst you’re in Turriff why not check out the Victoria Christmas Fayre at Delgatie Castle or the Fyvie Castle Christmas Fayre  nearby.
Date: 2 December.   Location: Various Venues, Turriff.

A Festive Rare Fayre at Glen Garioch
They say Christmas time is for mistletoe and wine… but you’re in Scotland so why not enjoy a glass of whisky instead.  With a range of food and craft stalls from local producers you can get your Christmas shopping off to a flying start or if you’ve already completed your shopping then relax and enjoy a tasting experience.
Date: 2 December 2017.   Location: Glen Garioch Distillery, Oldmeldrum.

Aladdin Pantomime
It’s Christmas time which means that the British Christmas tradition is upon us so get ready to hear “Hiya Pals” as it’s pantomime time! Aladdin will have you laughing your socks off with this family favourite. Get ready for colourful costumes, playful jokes and hilarious lyrics that will have you singing and dancing in your seat.
Date: 2 December – 7 January 2018.   Location: His Majesty’s Theatre.

Santa Run
No these “Santas” are not chasing after who ate all the mince pies, they’re running for a good cause: charity. The proceeds are going to the charity CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland). Whether you’d like to take part of watch, it’s up to you. Come along to what is sure to be a fun morning, after all it is a time for giving.
Date: 10 December.    Location: Aberdeen Sports Village.
