the Barn: Film: Carol (15)
We’ve partnered with the University of Aberdeen as part of International Women’s Day. Dr Amy Bryzgel has curated this season and selected films about women and their struggles from the past through to the present day. In Carol (2015, Todd Haynes, UK), Cate Blanchett plays Carol, an older woman in 1950s New York, going through a divorce. She enters into a forbidden love affair with a young photographer, played by Rooney Mara. Based on the groundbreaking 1952 romance novel The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith, Carol was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the
2015 Cannes Film Festival, where Mara tied for the Best Actress award.
