The Da Vinci Piano Trio is well known for their relaxed, witty and informative introductions and for their expressive playing, as featured in festival performances at the Edinburgh International Festival, Glasgow, Dartington, Sound Festival and live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
 
Alongside the B-flat Piano Trio by Schubert and the Piano Trio Op.1 No. 1 by Beethoven, tonight’s concert features the premiere of a new work by Aberdeenshire composer James Black, commissioned by Woodend Music Society to mark the last concert of its final season.

The Da Vinci Trio are Anthony Moffat (violin), Rudi de Groote (cello) and Liivi Arder (piano). 
Anthony Moffat, violin, was founder member of both the Duke String Quartet and the Borante Piano Trio. He has led many internationally acclaimed orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Scottish, BBC Concert and Hallé Orchestras, as well as the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. He has been leader of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera since 2001. 

Cellist Rudi de Groote grew up in South Africa and after studying at the Royal College of Music in London, he moved to Scotland where he became principal cello of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He is frequently invited to be guest principal cello in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the John Wilson Orchestra. He frequently performs as cellist with the Chilingirian String quartet, and as a soloist, Rudi has performed with the BBC SSO and with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. 

Estonian pianist Liivi Arder won First Prize in the Valentino Bucchi Competition in Rome, and has been awarded the Hester Dickson accompanist prize. As an accompanist Liivi has been working for music summer courses and masterclasses at the RCS and also for the RSNO. She has given chamber music concerts with Nikita Naumov, Ana Cordova Andres, Peter Wesley and has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Glasgow West End Festival with Daniel’s Beard ensemble.
