A world-class festival bursting at the seams with music, dance and theatre, Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF) is one of the most celebrated festivals in the city.
Beginning its life as an orchestral festival in the 1960s in Switzerland, the festival now represents local and international emerging talent. In 1973 it made its permanent home in Aberdeen, where orchestras and chamber musicians from across Europe gathered to perform and collaborate in a festival environment.
Forty two years later, and with more than 27,500 young artists travelling across the globe to take part, the prestigious festival has grown, modernised and includes a diverse range of performing arts.
AIYF prides itself on its unique offering of intimate classical and chamber music performances through its series ‘Up Close and Musical,’ and also delivers an ‘Extended Festival’ programme of events, where artists take their shows out to communities across Aberdeenshire.
In 2016, AIYF runs for 7 days across top venues across the area.
